Hospitaller Surcoat

Originating in the early 12th century was the Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem. The religious order more commonly known as the Hospitallers. What started out as a group of Italian merchants caring for pilgrims in the Holy Land, soon developed into one of the most powerful military orders of the time. Crafted from wool with a handwoven linen lining, our surcoat pays homage to those brave crusaders. All black with a single white Maltese cross in the center of the chest. Usually worn over a mail shirt, this surcoat is a must for any living history enthusiast.
